In the book “Woods Runner” there is one main theme. This theme is not to give up, in the book Samuel continues to keep going after he discover that his family had been captured by Hessians. He also continues when he has to depend on total strangers. An example would be when he had to leave Annie behind with a strangers family to go save his parents. So Samuel was determined not to give up and he eventually succeeded in his quest.

The two themes i took away from hatchet are never give up and Keep on trying.I believe those are the two themes because when he gets stuck in the woods without anything he never gives up. When the tornado destroys all of his hard work he just builds it again.

In the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen I think the theme is survival. Firstly, Brian survived for months and started out with barely anything. Also, he learned techniques about how to survive in the wilderness.

A book that I have read this year for an outside reading is Unbroken by, Laura Hillenbrand. I think the most important message or theme in this book was perserverence. When Louie and his crew mates were in the Japanese Torture Camps, they could have easily died and all would be over for them. They were under conditions that were unthinkable, and would have been death for the normal person. Instead Of giving up and consequently dieing they kept going and in the end “won” the war and freedom from those deadly condition. Another time in the book where perseverance was demonstrated was in Louies running. He started out, not a great runner and weak , he then he kept trying and even when he was exhausted and was ready to give up he kept going and powered through the pain and made great improvement.
